Hazardous Materials on the Roadside

Driving to my parents’ house, I saw piles of bags of leaves and soil contaminated with radioactive waste on the side of the road. This is in the middle of a pasture. You’d like to let in fresh air, but even with the windows closed, the dosimeter beeps and warns me of the radiation level. The bags were left there temporarily, until the (also temporary) storage sites for radioactive waste were designated. When I drove by three months later, the bags were gone.
